Our client is a macro strategy investment team within a large institutional fund management business. The fund runs macro strategies using an absolute return framework. With large pools of capital and utilising an overlay process, the team implements macro investments in global fixed income, currency, equity, and commodity markets. The team is supported by quantitative, economics and trade execution teams. The team is currently made up of eight professionals at a variety of levels.
The vision of this business is to build a sustainable alpha generating platform which will become a core element of the competitive edge of this institution’s investment team. Our client has made a long-term investment in building their capability. They have hired talented and experienced investors and have a strong commitment to developing our pipeline of internal talent to become world class macro investors.

Our client requires a Portfolio Manager to increase their current team’s knowledge base, risk appetite and market breadth. The ideal candidate will have professional experience working as an absolute return rates portfolio manager or trader in a hedge fund. The candidate must have a strong background in market making across derivative products, ideally macro, but as a cross product team our client is happy to consider other asset classes. This could come from hedge funds, balance sheet trading teams within banks, and potentially sell side derivative traders.

As a portfolio manager it would be expected the candidate has at least 12 years of professional experience post university. The role will be seen as a key leader within the team and be responsible for the professional development of all team members. The position is a 2IC to the Senior Portfolio Manager and this senior position means that the candidate must have leadership qualities. The cultural fit of the candidate is crucial to success, this should be humble, intelligent and team oriented.

The role is based in Sydney, but our client is happy to consider candidates in Melbourne and Brisbane.
