Associate Director, Investments – Commercial Real Estate Private Debt

Alternative Investments, Private Debt and Special Situations
Melbourne
  • Mid-level private debt investment opportunity focusing on deal execution with origination as a pathway
  • Small nimble team with broad exposure across structured finance including mezzanine debt within a well-capitalised fund
  • Medium to large cap ticket sizes with coverage across ANZ and property sectors

Platinum Pacific Partners is excited to be partnering exclusively with a large Australian Real Assets investment firm. The role sits within the company’s Real Estate Debt strategy, which takes up a large component of funds under management for the group. This opportunity has become available after growth within the business and evolution of a previous Associate Director into a pure origination role. The role is an end-to-end deal execution role. Asset management is carved out into a separate division, so this role will only be covering new deal work. Our client has a small nimble CRE Debt investment team allowing for all members to be part of transactions end to end, the team is highly collaborative and whilst based from Melbourne, cover transactions across Australia and New Zealand. The team executes on over 20 deals per year, all are in the middle to large cap space and targeting double digit returns.

The responsibilities of the Associate Director are multi-faceted. Most importantly the successful candidate will lead initial investment opportunity analysis, structuring and negotiations with borrowers. As a lead on financial due diligence and analysis, the candidate must come with previous experience in the real estate sector. Most likely at the 5-8 year mark post-graduation. Ideally candidates will have worked in transactions, whether debt or equity and understand key risk management and investment principles relating to commercial real estate financing. It is most likely the candidate will come from another private debt fund, however applicants could also come from banks, private equity, property firms, advisory or restructuring backgrounds. If coming from these alternative areas, the candidate must be a very strong cultural fit and clearly have the attributes to be successful and come up the learning curve quickly. Candidates must be able to work autonomously, contribute to a highly collaborative environment, be a critical thinker, fast on their feet and capable at problem solving. This is an opportunity to join a high growth business, in an active and entrepreneurial team.
