Associate/Associate Director – Private Debt: Infrastructure – Australian Fund Manager

Alternative Investments, Private Debt and Special Situations
Melbourne
  • Unique infrastructure private debt investment strategy
  • Excellent opportunity for strong Project Financiers to enter the growing Australian Private Credit investment market
  • Seeking strong financial modelling and capital structuring experience in the infrastructure, resources or energy space

Our client is a leading Australian investment management firm with track record investing across asset classes since its inception, but now running a multi sector private debt strategy. The firm boasts an excellent culture with a dynamic investment team based in Melbourne and Sydney offices. The firm covers deals across Australia and New Zealand and the deal teams regularly travel for due diligence purposes. They have a high performing culture.

It is expected the role will be covering new deals for origination and structuring 75% of the time and managing existing positions the other 25%. The fund runs an intentionally broad investment mandate which can include transactions in the following sectors; infrastructure, renewables, energy, resources, transport, digital infrastructure, telco, waste management, water and manufacturing. Ticket sizes are in the middle market ranging from $20mio – $300mio in size, capital is flexible but all positions are generally senior secured with warrants if required. The firm often partners with global financial sponsors and large cap domestic fund managers.

We are seeking a candidate with 4 – 8 years’ professional experience related to debt structuring and/or restructuring ideally across both cashflow and asset-based lending. This will most likely come from an investment or institutional banking position in project finance, infrastructure/resources M&A or from a boutique advisory firm. Candidates may come from private credit, however the preference is that the candidate has had prior real asset exposure. The candidate should be comfortable to run transactions end to end, structuring a term sheet, writing a credit paper, presenting transactions to investment committee, working alongside the Director for origination purposes and management of portfolio positions. The candidate must be comfortable to run financing transactions related to real assets autonomously. Strong financial modelling and commercial acumen are prerequisites for success in this role.

This is a unique opportunity in the Australian private credit market to specialise in infrastructure and real assets excluding property.
